On a Tuesday morning in Freeport, New York, the life of 35-year-old Jonathan Isaac was tragically cut short. On May 3, 2016, police responded to a call of a shooting at a residence on Frederick Avenue just before noon. Inside, they discovered two men who had been shot. Both Isaac and a 40-year-old man were transported to a local hospital for their injuries.
While the second victim survived, Jonathan Isaac, a resident of Freeport, was pronounced dead at 1:02 p.m.
From the outset, investigators believed the shooting was not a random act of violence, stating that the victims were likely targeted. The investigation into the violent home invasion led authorities to Tyrone L. Robinson of Bay Shore. It was revealed that Isaac's murder was part of a larger, violent crime spree orchestrated by Robinson and his co-conspirators between August 2015 and May 2016. The group was involved in multiple armed home invasions targeting drug dealers across Nassau and Suffolk counties, during which victims were often pistol-whipped, bound with zip-ties, and threatened with death.
During the home invasion in Freeport, Jonathan Isaac was fatally shot in the back. The subsequent investigation, aided by the Nassau and Suffolk County Police Departments and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, culminated in Robinson's arrest. In February 2020, a jury found Tyrone L. Robinson guilty of a litany of charges, including murder, seven counts of robbery and attempted robbery, seven counts of the unlawful use, brandishing, and discharge of firearms, and four counts of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. In November 2021, Robinson was sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 84 years, ensuring he would no longer be a threat to the community.
