On a warm summer evening in Harlem, 61-year-old Odessa Simms was enjoying a game of cards with friends on a bench at the corner of West 144th Street and Lenox Avenue. It was just before 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016, a time when the neighborhood was alive with the sounds of a typical New York night. Tragically, this evening would be her last.
