In the early morning hours of a Friday in Brentwood, Long Island, the quiet of a residential neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Responding to a 911 call at 5:35 a.m., Suffolk County police officers arrived at Meadowbrook Drive to a grim discovery. In the roadway, in front of his own home, lay 25-year-old Florentino Hernandez-Zavala, the victim of a fatal shooting.
