On a tragic Easter Sunday in 2017, the life of 26-year-old Wynban C. Goddard was cut short in Syracuse, New York. The young man was at a crowded intersection on Lodi Street on April 16th when he was fatally shot in the back. Emergency services transported him to University Hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The Syracuse Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide that led them to a suspect within a couple of weeks. Through witness interviews and a review of surveillance footage that captured the shooting, authorities identified 24-year-old Jovon McGloun as the perpetrator. McGloun was apprehended on April 29, 2017, and subsequently faced charges of second-degree murder and weapons possession in connection with Goddard's death.
The legal proceedings that followed brought a measure of resolution to the grieving community. Jovon McGloun was convicted of second-degree murder and weapons possession. On March 5, 2018, a judge sentenced him to a term of 25 years to life in prison. During the sentencing, Goddard's family expressed their profound grief, with his father, Calvin Goddard, stating that no prison sentence could truly bring justice for the loss of his son.
