In the summer of 2017, a fatal encounter unfolded in a Gowanda, New York mobile home park, resulting in the death of 46-year-old Anthony Chipman. On the evening of July 12th, Erie County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of shots fired at the Spring Wood Trailer Park on Bagdad Road. Upon their arrival, they encountered a male subject in the doorway of a residence.
After deputies issued commands for the individual to exit the dwelling, Brandon White, a 32-year-old from the nearby town of Collins, was taken into custody. Inside the home, law enforcement discovered Anthony Chipman, who was unresponsive. Emergency medical services from the Gowanda Ambulance Service were called to the scene, but their efforts were in vain as Chipman was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the death quickly focused on the man apprehended at the scene. The Erie County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Brandon White, who was subsequently charged with first-degree manslaughter. A firearm was recovered near the trailer and was taken for analysis to determine if it was the weapon used in the shooting. The medical examiner's office later confirmed that Chipman's death was a homicide caused by a gunshot wound. White was held at the Erie County Holding Center as the investigation continued.
