In the autumn of 2017, the life of a young Syracuse man was tragically cut short. Twenty-two-year-old John White, a resident of Syracuse, was fatally shot on October 8, 2017. A life-long resident of the city, he was known to be employed by The Roofing Guys. He is survived by his parents, two daughters, and a son.
The shooting prompted an investigation by the Syracuse Police Department, which spanned nearly two weeks.
Their efforts, with assistance from the Broome County Sheriff's Office and the New York State Police, led them to a suspect about an hour's drive south of the city.
Twelve days after the shooting, on October 20, 2017, authorities arrested 26-year-old Hanza Muhammad in Broome County. Muhammad was subsequently charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of John White.
