In the evening hours of March 20, 2024, a dispute on Court Street in Syracuse, New York, ended in tragedy. Andre L. Marshall, a 35-year-old Black man, was involved in an altercation when a firearm he was carrying discharged. The single gunshot struck him in the groin, causing a fatal wound.
Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 6:15 p.m. where they found Marshall with a serious gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to Upstate University Hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Andre L. Marshall succumbed to his injury and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Syracuse Police investigators began an inquiry into the shooting. During their investigation, they determined that the gunshot was self-inflicted and accidental, occurring during the course of the dispute. The weapon involved in the incident was recovered by police at the scene.
Given the accidental nature of the shooting, authorities concluded that no criminal charges were warranted. The investigation into the death of Andre L. Marshall was closed without any arrests being made or suspects being named.
