Lowell Hawthorne, the founder and CEO of Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery & Grill, tragically died on December 2, 2017, at the age of 57. His death occurred at the company's Bronx factory, where he was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The New York City Medical Examiner's office ruled his death a suicide. Hawthorne's passing was a significant loss to the community, as he was a well-respected entrepreneur who had built a successful Caribbean food empire from humble beginnings.
