On a cold December night in the Bronx, the festive atmosphere of a Sweet 16 party was shattered by gunfire, leaving a family to mourn the loss of a beloved son. Sixteen-year-old Sincear Michael Williams, a male resident of Clason Point, was fatally shot in the neck outside Maestro's Caterers on Bronxdale Avenue in the Morris Park neighborhood on December 28, 2017. The celebration had just ended when violence erupted, cutting short a young life full of promise.
The party, which had been promoted on social media, drew a large number of uninvited guests. A dispute broke out, and as people were leaving, shots were fired from a car into the crowd just after 12:30 a.m. In the ensuing chaos, Sincear was struck. Emergency services rushed him to Jacobi Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced deceased. A second teenager, a 17-year-old male, was also wounded in the shooting, sustaining a gunshot to his left arm.
The investigation into the senseless killing led police to 19-year-old Kameron Wallace. He was arrested on January 31, 2018, and faced a slew of charges, including second-degree murder, attempted murder, first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault, and multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Authorities alleged that Wallace was a party crasher who had gotten into an argument with the 17-year-old victim before opening fire on both him and Sincear.
The road to justice for Sincear's family was a long and arduous one, marked by court delays, including those caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Kameron Wallace's trial finally commenced in September 2021, nearly four years after the fatal shooting. The trial proceeded, and by October 2021, the case was ready for closing arguments. Ultimately, the jury acquitted Wallace of all charges in October 2021.
