In a tragic eruption of domestic violence, 29-year-old Suchari Guzman and her mother, Susan Trivino, were fatally shot in their Bronx apartment on January 10, 2018. The gunman, Jorge Vega, a former MTA bus driver with whom Trivino had a tumultuous relationship, then turned the gun on himself in a murder-suicide. The horrific events unfolded in the Soundview section of the Bronx, inside the home the two women shared.
The relationship between Vega and 54-year-old Trivino had been marked by
conflict, with a domestic incident report having been filed with the NYPD four months prior to the killings. On that fateful day, Vega entered the apartment and, in a fit of rage, shot both women. Guzman was struck in the chest and succumbed to her injuries at Jacobi Medical Center, while her mother was pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds to the head and chest. The violence was witnessed by Guzman's one-year-old daughter, who was thankfully unharmed.
After shooting both women, Vega shot himself in the head. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition and later died from his self-inflicted injuries. An investigation by the NYPD confirmed the incident was a domestic dispute that escalated to a tragic double murder and suicide. As the perpetrator died at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with the deaths of Suchari Guzman and Susan Trivino.
