In the summer of 2016, a quiet street in New Orleans East was shattered by violence that claimed the lives of a mother and her son. On the evening of July 26th, within the walls of their home on Edgefield Drive, 59-year-old Debra Burgess and her 44-year-old son, Freddy Burgess, were fatally shot. The tranquility of the neighborhood was abruptly broken by the sound of gunfire, prompting calls to the police.
