On the night of January 10, 2026, 33-year-old Alexandra Fields was fatally shot outside of Bloom Southfield, a lounge in Southfield, Michigan. The incident, which also left another person wounded, is reported to have stemmed from a domestic dispute that began inside the establishment where a birthday was being celebrated and later escalated in the parking lot.

According to the owner of the lounge, the conflict was an isolated domestic incident among a group of attendees. Security video from outside the bar captured a heated argument in the parking lot. The owner alleges that during an attempt by an armed security guard to de-escalate the situation, Fields produced a firearm. The security guard reportedly asked her multiple times to lower her weapon before an altercation occurred, leading to the guard firing multiple shots. Alexandra Fields was killed, and another individual was injured.

The security guard involved in the shooting was taken into custody following the event but was later released. Southfield police are continuing their investigation and are awaiting a charging decision from the prosecutor's office.

Alexandra’s father, Alan Fields, described his daughter as a joy who was shy but extremely funny as a child. She was an intelligent and hardworking individual who excelled in both academics and sports. She played basketball for Bloomfield Hills Andover in high school and was a member of the 2012 MAC championship women's basketball team at Eastern Michigan University, where she graduated in 2015. Fields was remembered for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and deep care for the less fortunate, which was reflected in her tireless work on social justice causes with the Neighborhood Defender Service of the Detroit Public Defender's Office.
