In the quiet early morning hours in a New Orleans East neighborhood, a tragedy unfolded that would claim the lives of a young mother and her child. Walesha Williams, a 25-year-old female, was fatally shot inside her home on Duane Road. The violence that erupted that day also took the life of her 8-year-old daughter, Paris, who was reportedly asleep in her bed.
The incident, which occurred around 1 a.m. on a Tuesday in March of 2015, was a triple shooting.
A third victim, a 39-year-old friend of the family, was also shot but managed to survive by pretending to be dead. After the gunman fled, the injured woman ran to a neighbor's house for help, identifying Williams' boyfriend as the assailant before she collapsed.
In the aftermath of the shooting, neighbors and family members were left in shock, struggling to comprehend the violent act that had shattered their community. Many believed the incident stemmed from domestic violence.
Police quickly identified Walesha's 25-year-old boyfriend, Dwayne Martin, as the primary suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest.
