A trip to New Orleans to celebrate her 33rd birthday ended in tragedy for Jessica Williams, a mother of two from Chicago. In the early morning hours of Sunday, September 28, 2025, Williams was walking on Bourbon Street with her sister when they inadvertently found themselves in the middle of a heated argument. The altercation quickly escalated, and gunfire erupted in the 100 block of Bourbon Street at approximately 2:22 a.m.
Williams was struck by the gunfire and was pronounced dead at the scene.
An innocent bystander, Williams was caught in the crossfire between two men. Her sister was also injured in the shooting. The incident also left two other individuals, a man and a woman, with injuries requiring hospitalization. A fourth person later sought treatment for a graze wound. Williams, a devoted mother, had reportedly been hesitant to take time for herself but was finally convinced to celebrate her birthday with family.
The New Orleans Police Department swiftly launched an investigation, releasing images of four persons of interest to the public. This led to the identification and subsequent arrest of two suspects. Police identified the initial shooter as Mai Jarius Andrew and the second individual involved in the exchange of gunfire as Dantrell Bradley. Both men were taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting that cut short the life of a visiting mother and shook the community.
