In the quiet town of Hobart, New York, the life of 52-year-old Lisa K. German, a registered dietitian, came to a tragic end on the evening of Monday, November 5, 2018. The events of that night unfolded in her apartment located on State Route 10, a space that should have been a sanctuary but instead became the scene of a devastating murder-suicide.
The following day, concern grew when Lisa's estranged husband, 57-year-old Christopher German, failed to appear for his job in Cooperstown.
This uncharacteristic absence prompted his employer to request a welfare check. Law enforcement first visited Christopher's residence in South Kortright before proceeding to Lisa's apartment in Hobart. There, in the living room, they made the grim discovery of both Lisa and Christopher deceased from gunshot wounds.
Investigations by the New York State Police quickly determined that Christopher German had shot his estranged wife before turning the. 38 caliber handgun on himself. An autopsy later confirmed that Lisa had sustained two gunshot wounds, with the fatal one being to her head. The scene was consistent with a murder-suicide, and the weapon, registered to Christopher, was recovered at the residence.
