Marquita Akin, an 18-year-old resident of Buffalo, New York, was tragically shot and killed in the early hours of January 1, 2007. Akin was outside a nightclub on Northampton Street when she was fatally struck by gunfire around 4 a.m. Her friends immediately rushed her to Buffalo General Hospital, but despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries. Her death marked the first homicide in Buffalo that year.
