In the Queens neighborhood of Jackson Heights, 31-year-old Jeffrey Arroyo, a Hispanic male, was fatally shot on April 8, 2019. The incident occurred around noon near the intersection of 37th Avenue and 88th Street, just a short distance from Arroyo's home. According to reports, Arroyo was seen running from a house, covered in blood and screaming that he had been shot.
He had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported Arroyo to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. A trail of blood from the street led investigators to the location where the shooting took place. In the wake of his death, a memorial with prayer candles and notes from loved ones was set up across the street from his apartment, and a GoFundMe page was created to assist with his burial expenses.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led to a suspect. On April 9, 2019, the day after the fatal shooting, police arrested 49-year-old Nestor Londono in connection with Arroyo's death. Londono was subsequently charged with manslaughter and weapon possession. While an arrest was made, law enforcement officials stated at the time that the investigation into the motive for the shooting was still ongoing.
