In the early hours of April 26, 2020, the life of 23-year-old Taleek R. Smith was tragically cut short in Hempstead, New York. Just after midnight, at approximately 12:19 a.m., Hempstead Police Department officers were dispatched to the vicinity of Olsen Place after a ShotSpotter activation alerted them to gunfire in the area. Upon their arrival, they discovered Smith seated in a parked car, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
