In a tragic incident on June 1, 2020, 19-year-old Antwone 'AJ' Williams of Queens, NY, was fatally shot. Williams, a young male, was with his best friend, Javan Simpson, and his 26-year-old cousin in a parked SUV when the violence erupted. The trio was waiting for Williams' mother near the Cynthia Jenkins School in the St. Albans neighborhood of Queens at approximately 2:30 p.m.
An unidentified gunman approached the vehicle and opened fire, striking all three occupants.
Both Antwone Williams and Javan Simpson succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital. Williams' cousin was also critically wounded in the attack and was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens for treatment. The sudden violence left a family and community in deep mourning. Williams' mother, Andrea Douglas, a former detective, had spoken to her son just half an hour before the shooting and expressed her profound grief and desire for justice.
In the wake of the shooting, the family held a vigil near the site of the incident to honor the memory of the two young men. Despite the public outcry and the family's pleas for answers, the investigation into the double homicide has not yet led to any arrests. The gunman remains at large, and the motive for the shooting is still unknown.
