On a summer evening in Buffalo, New York, a verbal altercation outside a corner store at East Ferry and Grider Streets ended in the tragic death of 27-year-old David D. Moore. Just before 11:20 p.m. on June 9, 2020, Moore was shot multiple times. He was privately transported to Erie County Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting led to the indictment of Mahzhee Young, a Buffalo man, over two years after the incident.
Young, who was 28 years old at the time of the indictment in August 2022, was charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Authorities alleged that Young used an illegal gun to shoot Moore during their dispute. Following the indictment, he was held without bail.
In January 2024, then 31-year-old Mahzhee Young was sentenced in Erie County Court for his role in David Moore's death. He received a 20-year prison sentence for a conviction of manslaughter.
