In the summer of 2020, a 33-year-old woman from Brooklyn, Shatavia Walls, became the target of a deadly plot. Her story is one that weaves together a dispute over fireworks and a calculated retaliation for her testimony against a gang member in federal court. On the evening of July 7, 2020, while walking through a courtyard at the Pink Houses in East New York, Walls was ambushed and shot multiple times.
