In the summer of 2020, a young man's life was tragically cut short on a street in Rochester, New York. Jonathan Disdier, a 23-year-old male, was shot and killed on July 7, 2020. The incident, which marked the city's 18th homicide of the year, took place on Coleman Terrace, just off of Clifford Avenue.
The shooting prompted an investigation by local law enforcement, which eventually led to the identification and arrest of a suspect.
In a significant development in the case, Samiere Williams, who was 17 years old at the time of the shooting, was taken into custody. The community was left to grapple with the senseless violence that had claimed the life of a young member of their community, a man described as an outgoing and loving father, brother, and son.
In April 2022, nearly two years after the fatal shooting, the case saw a resolution in the justice system. Samiere Williams, then 19, pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. As a result of his guilty plea, Williams was sentenced to a term of 20 years to life in prison for the murder of Jonathan Disdier, bringing a close to the legal proceedings in a case that had left a lasting scar on a Rochester neighborhood.
