In the summer of 2020, a visit to Syracuse, New York, turned tragic for Luis Ramos-Rodriguez, a 27-year-old man from Puerto Rico. On the evening of July 26th, on the city's west side, Ramos-Rodriguez was on Oswego Street when he was shot in the head. Paramedics arrived at the scene and quickly transported him to University Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
The Syracuse Police Department
began an investigation into the shooting, which they determined was not a random act of violence, but rather a targeted attack. Their investigation led them to a suspect nearly two months later. On September 16, 2020, a 17-year-old male was taken into custody in connection with the death of Ramos-Rodriguez.
Following his arrest, the teenage suspect was charged with murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon. He was subsequently arraigned and held at the Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Center to await legal proceedings. The arrest brought a sense of resolution to the case, though the motive for the targeted shooting was not immediately made public.
