On the evening of New Year's Eve 2020, Sean Vance, a 26-year-old male, was fatally shot in the Queens borough of New York City. The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. in front of 113-08 Sutphin Boulevard in Jamaica. Vance was inside his car when he sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. He was privately transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting continued for over two years.
In March 2023, authorities announced a significant development in the case with the arrests of 20-year-old Tymirh Bey-Foster and 18-year-old Jokai Coy. Both men were charged with murder and criminal use of a firearm. These arrests were part of a larger crackdown on gang violence in the area.
Further details emerged from a 151-count indictment against 33 reputed members of two rival gangs, 'Money World' and 'Local Trap Stars.' Prosecutors alleged that Vance's murder was a result of a tragic case of mistaken identity amidst an ongoing and violent gang war. On the day of the shooting, a member of the 'Money World' gang had been shot. Believing Vance was involved in the earlier shooting, members of the 'Money World' gang allegedly planned and carried out his murder in retaliation.
According to the Queens District Attorney's Office, Tymirh Bey-Foster, a member of the 'Money World' gang, exited a vehicle and fired eight shots at Vance, who was seated in his car. In addition to Bey-Foster and Coy, two other alleged 'Money World' members, Justin Harvey and Joel Lewis, were also implicated in the planning of the murder. The extensive investigation and subsequent indictment highlighted the dangerous and often indiscriminate nature of the gang violence that led to the death of Sean Vance.
