In the early morning hours of August 2, 2021, a verbal dispute outside a Central Islip bar escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 31-year-old German Ariel Montes De Oca Ramirez of Bay Shore. The male victim was outside the Mi Nuevo Encanto Restaurant and Bar on Carleton Avenue at approximately 1:06 a.m. when he became embroiled in an argument with another man. The altercation took a deadly turn when the other individual, Ismael Rodriguez-Rosado, pulled out a 9 mm pistol and shot Ramirez four times.
Following the shooting, Rodriguez-Rosado, a 29-year-old from East Islip, fled the scene in a red Ford Edge SUV. His escape was short-lived, however, as police spotted his vehicle at a gas station in Bay Shore. A pursuit ensued, during which Rodriguez-Rosado struck an undercover police vehicle before his own car was intentionally hit by law enforcement, causing it to spin to a stop. He was then taken into custody.
The entire homicide was captured on the restaurant's surveillance video, providing crucial evidence for investigators.
Ismael Rodriguez-Rosado was subsequently charged with murder in the second degree and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. On June 5, 2023, he pleaded guilty to all charges. The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office announced that on October 20, 2023, Rodriguez-Rosado was sentenced to 17 years to life in prison for the murder of German Ramirez. It was also revealed that Rodriguez-Rosado had a prior conviction for attempted robbery in the first degree from 2016.
