In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Brooklyn, the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of the night. On August 8, 2021, a ShotSpotter activation and multiple calls reporting shots fired brought police to the corner of Georgia Avenue and Wortman Avenue in the 75th Precinct. Inside a vehicle at the intersection, officers discovered a tragic scene with three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. One of these victims was 36-year-old Novada Bailey, a male resident of Queens, NY.
He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his face, chest, and arm.
Emergency medical services rushed Novada Bailey to NYC Health + Hospitals / Kings County, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced deceased. Another 36-year-old male, Nicholas Palmer, was also found in the vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital. A third man in the car, aged 51, was transported to Brookdale Hospital in critical condition with gunshot wounds to his forearm, upper back, and chest.
The violence of that morning was not confined to the vehicle. The police investigation revealed that two other men had been shot inside a nearby building at 101 Wortman Avenue. A 37-year-old male was taken by private means to a hospital in New Rochelle with a gunshot wound to his shoulder and was listed in stable condition. A 32-year-old male was transported to Brookdale Hospital in critical condition with gunshot wounds to his chest and neck. As of the initial reports, no arrests had been made in connection with the deadly shooting, and the investigation remained ongoing.
