In the early hours of a Sunday in August 2021, the sounds of a party at a Brooklyn event space were tragically interrupted by gunfire. When the violence subsided, 36-year-old Nicholas Palmer and another man, Novada Bailey, also 36, were dead, and three other people were wounded. The incident unfolded at a gathering on Wortman Avenue in East New York, where a celebration turned into a scene of chaos and loss.
According to police, a verbal dispute at the party, which was attended by over
100 people, escalated dramatically when an unidentified man brandished a firearm and began shooting. The preliminary investigation suggests that two individuals were shot inside the venue, while Palmer and two other men were shot while sitting inside a gray Infiniti sedan at the corner of Georgia Avenue and Wortman Avenue.
Emergency services rushed Palmer to Brookdale Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head, but he could not be saved. Bailey was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals / Kings County with gunshot wounds to his face, chest, and arm, where he was also pronounced deceased. The three other victims, men aged 32, 37, and 51, sustained various gunshot wounds and were treated at area hospitals.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the New York Police Department appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the person responsible for the deadly attack. Officials expressed concern about the potential for retaliatory violence and urged anyone with information to come forward. Despite the number of witnesses present at the party, the suspect fled the scene, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the murders of Nicholas Palmer and Novada Bailey. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
