On a Tuesday afternoon, September 28, 2021, Folarin Emmanuel Adegbenro, a 30-year-old male, was fatally shot in the chest on South Avenue, just a short distance from his home in the Mariner's Harbor neighborhood of Staten Island, New York. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m., and despite being rushed to Richmond University Medical Center, he succumbed to his injuries.
Initial investigations by law enforcement suggested that the shooting was gang-related, identifying Adegbenro as a member of the G Stone Crips.
The investigation into Adegbenro's death quickly led to an arrest. Luke Woodfolk, a 31-year-old reputed member of the rival Bloods gang, was taken into custody at his residence in Yonkers. Authorities believe the motive for the shooting stemmed from ongoing conflicts between the two gangs. Woodfolk was subsequently charged with murder, criminal use of a firearm, and criminal possession of a firearm. His criminal history included prior arrests on Staten Island and in lower Manhattan. The case against Woodfolk proceeded through the legal system, where he faced the possibility of a lengthy prison sentence if convicted.
