In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Brooklyn, the life of 22-year-old Roshad Twells was tragically cut short. On October 3, 2021, at approximately 1:02 a.m., Twells was in front of the Albany Houses on Troy Avenue when gunfire erupted. Officers from the 77th precinct responded to a call of a man shot, where they discovered Twells unconscious with gunshot wounds to his chest.
Emergency services rushed him to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead. Roshad Twells was a resident of the very housing complex where he was killed.
The investigation into the shooting led police to release surveillance footage of a potential suspect. The video shows an individual exiting the building with shopping bags in hand, who then turns back and opens fire in the direction of Twells and another person. This brazen act of violence left a community searching for answers and a family mourning the loss of a young man described as wise, ambitious, and kind-hearted. At the time of the initial reports, no arrests had been made, and the investigation was ongoing. The New York Police Department sought the public's assistance in identifying the person seen in the video, hoping to bring a measure of justice for Roshad Twells and his loved ones.
