In December of 2021, the Syracuse community was shaken by the discovery of the body of 40-year-old Edwin DeJesus, a Hispanic male. His life was cut short in a violent act that ended with his body being concealed in the trunk of a vehicle. The grim discovery was made on December 10, 2021, after police were called to investigate a report of a shooting.
The investigation led them to a car parked on Croly Street, where they found DeJesus.
Authorities determined that DeJesus had been shot on Davis Street before his body was moved to the vehicle. The investigation quickly led to a suspect, 42-year-old Gamalier Lacen-Medina. He was located and taken into custody, where he was found to be in possession of a weapon. Lacen-Medina was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with DeJesus's death.
The legal process that followed brought some measure of closure to the tragic event. Gamalier Lacen-Medina was prosecuted for the murder of Edwin DeJesus. He was ultimately found guilty of the charges brought against him. For his crimes, he was sentenced to serve 17 years in prison. The resolution of the case in the courts marked the final chapter in the senseless death of Edwin DeJesus, a man whose life was violently taken.
