In the summer of 2022, a violent altercation outside an after-hours party in Rochester, New York, claimed the life of 27-year-old Jameik Foster Sr. The incident occurred on State Street, just south of Lyell Avenue, in the early morning hours. An argument escalated, resulting in gunfire that left Foster fatally wounded. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The shooting also resulted in another man in his 30s being wounded.
As chaos erupted at the scene and people fled, a man working at a hot dog cart at the corner was stabbed. Both of these additional victims were expected to survive their injuries. The Rochester Police Department immediately began an investigation into the homicide.
Nearly a month after the fatal shooting, authorities located and arrested a suspect in Nevada. The man taken into custody was identified as 31-year-old Saquan Felton of Rochester. Felton was charged in connection with the death of Jameik Foster. He later pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter. As a result of his guilty plea, Saquan Felton was sentenced to serve 15 years in prison for his role in the shooting.
