In the early hours of a Sunday morning in November 2022, a dispute in a Harlem nightclub spilled out into the street, leaving one man dead. Jose Morales, a 39-year-old Black male from East Harlem, was shot and killed on November 27, 2022. The incident took place around 3 a.m. near the corner of West 143rd Street and Broadway in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood.
Following the shooting, Morales managed to get into his car and drive about a block before crashing.
He was subsequently transported to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death was a single gunshot wound to the chest.
The New York Police Department released surveillance video of two men wanted in connection with the shooting. The suspects were described as being between 35 and 40 years old. One of the men was seen wearing a black jacket, black-and-white sweatpants, and black sneakers and was holding a black firearm. The second man was wearing a black hooded jacket, black pants, and black boots and was also seen with a firearm.
According to police, the shooting stemmed from a dispute that began inside a nearby club and escalated on the street. Despite the release of the surveillance footage and a public appeal for information, there have been no announced arrests in the case, and the investigation remains ongoing. The two men seen in the video are still being sought by police for questioning in the death of Jose Morales.
