In the predawn hours of a summer day in Suitland, Maryland, the life of 34-year-old Antwann T. Don Twizzi Massey was tragically cut short. On July 31, 2010, at approximately 12:54 a.m., police were called to the 3800 block of Regency Parkway for a report of a shooting. Arriving officers discovered Massey inside a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
For more than two and a half years, the case remained unsolved, leaving a void in the lives of his family and friends. Investigators diligently worked to piece together the events of that fatal night. The breakthrough in the case came in early 2013 when the Prince George's County Police Department announced the arrests of two men in connection with Massey's murder. Jeffrey Allen Cutler Jr., 26, of Capitol Heights, and 27-year-old Houston Donald Washington, of Southeast Washington, were taken into custody.
The investigation revealed that the motive behind the deadly shooting was a residential robbery. Massey was known to sell snacks from his home, and it is believed that the money from these sales is what drew the suspects to his door. Authorities detailed that Cutler and Washington entered Massey's home and demanded money. During the course of the robbery, Houston Donald Washington allegedly shot Massey multiple times.
Evidence collected from the scene was instrumental in leading detectives to identify Cutler and Washington as the primary suspects. Washington was already incarcerated on unrelated charges when he was served with the warrant on February 28, 2013. A day later, on March 1, 2013, Cutler was apprehended at his residence. Both men were charged with first-degree murder and held in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
