On the evening of May 29, 2017, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a Suitland, Maryland neighborhood, leaving one man dead and another wounded. Bruce Coley, a 43-year-old Black male from Mitchellville, was shot and killed in the 3200 block of Swann Road at approximately 6:20 p.m. When patrol officers from the Prince George's County Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered both Mr.
Coley and another adult male suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims were rushed to a local hospital for medical attention. Tragically, Bruce Coley succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The second victim was more fortunate, as his injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening. The incident prompted an immediate and intensive investigation by the Homicide Unit of the Prince George's County Police Department.
In the days and weeks that followed, detectives worked to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. However, a clear motive for the attack remained elusive, and investigators were unable to identify any suspects in the immediate aftermath of the crime. The Prince George's County Police Department has offered a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for Bruce Coley's death. The investigation into his murder is ongoing, and authorities continue to appeal to the public for any information that might help them bring those responsible to justice.
