Rodney Deron Edwards, a 35-year-old man from Landover, Maryland, died on December 17, 2011, in a tragic incident involving a police officer. According to reports, Edwards was lying in a grassy area in the 7500 block of Greenleaf Road in Palmer Park when a Prince George's County Police officer, who was driving an unmarked van, noticed him and decided to check on his welfare. The officer, who had just left a Toys for Tots event, made a U-turn and approached Edwards out of concern for his safety.
