On a Friday afternoon, January 28, 2022, the life of 32-year-old Kenneth Reddix of Beltsville was tragically cut short in Landover, Maryland. In the 7000 block of Kent Town Drive, at approximately 2:40 pm, police responded to a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Reddix outside, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but succumbed to his injuries several hours later.
The investigation into the death of the male victim led police to identify a
suspect with whom Reddix was acquainted. The preliminary investigation suggested that the shooting stemmed from a dispute between the two men. A reward of up to $25,000 was offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case.
Authorities eventually identified 31-year-old Marcus Mitchell of Landover as the suspect. In a separate investigation into a fatal domestic-related shooting that occurred on February 5, 2022, investigators recovered a handgun. Ballistic testing confirmed that this was the same weapon used to kill Kenneth Reddix. At the time he was charged with Reddix's murder, Mitchell was already in custody for the murder of 29-year-old Remi Howell. Detectives do not believe the two murders were connected, despite being carried out by the same individual with the same firearm.
