In the early morning hours of December 27, 2012, a grim discovery was made in Capitol Heights, Maryland. Police officers, responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle at approximately 6:55 a.m. near the intersection of Pepper Mill Drive and Drylog Street, found 21-year-old Nicholas Andrew Battle inside. He had sustained an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of the young Capitol Heights man proceeded for over a month.
Detectives from the Prince George's County Police Department worked to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Their efforts culminated in the identification of a suspect.
In early February 2013, authorities announced a significant development in the case. Johnathan Brandon Walker, a 23-year-old from Hyattsville, was arrested in connection with the murder of Nicholas Andrew Battle. Walker was subsequently charged with both first and second-degree murder. Following his arrest, he was held in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
