In the late evening hours of Thursday, August 31, 2017, emergency responders were called to the 2000 block of Plank Road in Baton Rouge. There, they found 64-year-old Jesse Chase lying in the road with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries the following day. The incident was one of two shootings that occurred in Baton Rouge within an hour of each other, prompting an investigation by local police.
