On a summer evening in Bladensburg, Maryland, the life of 22-year-old Larry Nathaniel Williams was tragically cut short. On July 2, 2014, at approximately 9:15 p.m., officers from the Bladensburg Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in a parking lot on the 5000 block of 57th Avenue. There, they discovered Williams suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but succumbed to his injuries several hours later.
The investigation into the death of the Hyattsville resident swiftly led to a suspect. Within two days, on the morning of July 4, police arrested 26-year-old Nathaniel Jamar Johnson at his home in Bladensburg. Authorities announced that the motive for the shooting may have stemmed from an argument that had occurred earlier between the two men.
Following his arrest, Nathaniel Jamar Johnson was charged with first and second-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Larry Nathaniel Williams. He was taken into custody and held at the Department of Corrections without bond. The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit led the investigation, offering a reward for any information that would lead to an arrest and indictment in the case.
