In the late morning of September 13, 2017, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 21-year-old Catrell Wallace was found in a parking lot in the 2600 block of Weller Avenue with a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services transported him to a local hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The shooting occurred at approximately 10:45 a.m.
From the outset, investigators with the Baton Rouge Police Department believed that Wallace was not the intended target of the shooting.
The initial investigation did not immediately identify a motive or any suspects. The circumstances surrounding why Wallace was in the parking lot at that time and what led to the fatal gunfire remained unclear to the public in the immediate aftermath.
By January 2018, the investigation had progressed to a point where police were seeking public assistance to identify a specific individual. Authorities released a request for information about a person they believed was responsible for driving the getaway vehicle from the scene of the crime. This indicated that law enforcement had determined the shooting involved at least one other person who aided the perpetrator in fleeing the area.
Despite this call for public assistance, there have been no subsequent announcements of arrests made or charges filed in the homicide of Catrell Wallace. The case has grown cold, and the identity of the shooter and the driver of the getaway vehicle remain publicly unknown. The investigation into the death of Catrell Wallace is still considered open, but without further leads, it joins the number of unsolved homicides in Baton Rouge.
