In the Gentilly area of New Orleans, on the evening of December 6, 2017, Adnan Alasar, a 51-year-old Syrian immigrant, was working at his Subway restaurant on Caton Street. A husband and father of three, Alasar was known as an embodiment of the American dream, having successfully built three businesses in the New Orleans area. Friends described him as a proud American and a giving man, known for his acts of kindness, such as providing food to the homeless.
