On a Saturday afternoon in Baltimore, Maryland, 37-year-old Derrick Hickman, a Black male, was fatally shot on November 5, 2016. The incident occurred in the 2800 block of Keyworth Avenue, where Hickman was sitting on a porch with other people. The attack was not random; police determined that it was a targeted event. Hickman was transported to Sinai Hospital, where he succumbed to a gunshot wound to the chest.
Two men and a woman approached the porch and opened fire, striking Hickman.
During the shooting, a 10-month-old infant was also injured, suffering a wound to the leg. As the three suspects fled the scene, they noticed a potential witness inside a vehicle. They fired at her, and she sustained a non-life-threatening graze wound.
Baltimore police canvassed the neighborhood, going door-to-door to gather more information about the shooting. Investigators believe the assailants knew exactly who their target was. Despite the efforts of law enforcement and public appeals for information, no arrests have been reported in connection with the murder of Derrick Hickman, and the case remains unresolved.
