In the quiet neighborhood of Windsor Mill, Maryland, the life of 39-year-old Michael Jefferson Jr. was tragically cut short on a Sunday night. Known affectionately as 'Mike' to his neighbors, he was a welcoming presence on Rocky Brook Court. Friends remember him as a good guy and a tailgating buddy for Ravens games, making the violence that befell him all the more shocking to the community.
On the evening of his death, police were called to Jefferson's home just before midnight following
reports of gunfire. They arrived to find him in the front doorway, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators noted that there were no signs of forced entry, leading them to believe that Jefferson likely knew his killer.
The investigation quickly focused on a neighbor, 30-year-old Brandon Jerome Stanfield, who also resided on Rocky Brook Court. Police reports indicate that an argument had erupted between Stanfield and Jefferson inside Jefferson's home earlier that evening. The dispute reportedly began after Stanfield brought a gun into the house, which Jefferson considered disrespectful.
The verbal altercation escalated to deadly violence, with Stanfield allegedly shooting Jefferson multiple times. According to witness statements, the shooting continued even as Jefferson tried to flee. Following the incident, Brandon Jerome Stanfield was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He was subsequently held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
