In the late summer of 2017, the life of a young Hagerstown, Maryland man was tragically cut short. DeSean Que McNair, a 19-year-old male, was fatally shot on September 16, 2017. The incident that claimed McNair's life unfolded in a hallway of the Garden Plaza Hotel, leaving a community in mourning and law enforcement with a homicide to solve.
The investigation into McNair's death led authorities to identify a suspect, 42-year-old Raymond Trotman.
For more than a year, Trotman remained a wanted man in connection with the killing. The search for him came to a dramatic end in November 2018. Hagerstown Police, who had been monitoring several locations, spotted Trotman in Greencastle, Pennsylvania. When officers attempted to apprehend him, Trotman fled in a vehicle, initiating a police chase that crossed state lines into Maryland. The pursuit concluded when Trotman crashed his car in Maugansville.
Upon his arrest, officers discovered that Trotman's 3-year-old daughter had been in the vehicle with him throughout the chase. The child was unharmed. Following the crash, Trotman was taken into custody and faced a litany of serious charges for his alleged role in McNair's death. These charges included first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and several firearm violations. He also faced additional charges related to the police pursuit that led to his capture.
