In the cold of late November 2017, the life of 25-year-old Darryl Burks Jr., a Black male and a medical technician from Baltimore, Maryland, was tragically cut short. On the evening of November 29th, firefighters responded to a blaze that had engulfed a vacant rowhouse in the 3000 block of Rayner Avenue. Inside the charred remains of the building, they made a grim discovery: the body of Darryl Burks Jr.

death. Burks had been shot, and his death was officially ruled a homicide.
