In a selfless act of heroism, 51-year-old Prince George's County Police Corporal Mujahid Ramzziddin was shot and killed on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, in Brandywine, Maryland, while coming to the aid of a neighbor. A male, Ramzziddin, a respected 14-year veteran of the department and a former U.S. Marine, was off-duty at his home when a female neighbor sought his help in a domestic dispute.
The woman was reportedly being threatened by her estranged husband, 37-year-old Glenn Tyndell,
who was armed with a shotgun. Without hesitation, Ramzziddin intervened, placing himself between the woman and Tyndell. In the ensuing confrontation, Tyndell opened fire, fatally wounding the officer. After shooting Ramzziddin, Tyndell stole his service weapon and fled the scene.
A manhunt for Tyndell immediately commenced, involving multiple law enforcement agencies. The pursuit ended approximately 10 miles away, where Tyndell was located by responding officers. When confronted, Tyndell fired at the officers, who returned fire, killing him. It was later revealed that Tyndell had three open warrants for assault and a history of domestic incidents.
In recognition of his bravery and ultimate sacrifice, Mujahid Ramzziddin was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He was remembered by his colleagues and the community as a dedicated officer who had previously been awarded the department's Medal of Valor. His courageous actions on that tragic day saved the life of his neighbor.
