On the evening of November 11, 2016, a verbal and physical altercation between two acquaintances in Brandywine, Maryland, escalated into a fatal shooting. The victim was identified as 46-year-old Tyrone Shirriel Jr. of Oxon Hill. The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 pm in the 13600 block of Tower Road. When patrol officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Shirriel outside, suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was promptly transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit launched an investigation into the shooting. A reward of up to $25,000 was offered for any information that would lead to an arrest and indictment in the case. Through their preliminary investigation, detectives determined that the shooting stemmed from a dispute between Shirriel and the suspect.
As a result of the investigation, a suspect was identified and arrested. Muhammad Ali, a 34-year-old resident of Bladensburg, was taken into custody and charged with the fatal shooting of Tyrone Shirriel Jr. The charges brought against Ali included first and second-degree murder. Following his arrest, he was held at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
