John Patrick McNamara, a 56-year-old journalist, tragically lost his life on June 28, 2018, in a mass shooting at the Capital Gazette office in Annapolis, Maryland. McNamara, along with four of his colleagues, was killed when a gunman opened fire in the newsroom. The shooter, Jarrod Ramos, had a long-standing grudge against the newspaper due to a defamation lawsuit he had filed and lost. Ramos entered the office building and began shooting through a glass door, targeting the employees inside.
