In a commuter parking lot in Norbeck, Maryland, on August 4, 2018, a grim scene unfolded inside a Toyota Prius. Authorities discovered 89-year-old Thomas Willey, a male resident of the nearby Leisure World community, deceased in the front passenger seat from a gunshot wound. His son, 67-year-old Greg Willey, was found in the driver's seat, critically injured with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The two men lived together.
Investigations by the Montgomery County police pointed to a domestic-related murder and attempted suicide. It is believed that Greg Willey shot his father before turning the gun on himself. A handgun was recovered at the scene near the younger man. Detectives also found a note inside the vehicle that they believe was written by Greg Willey, further suggesting the murder-suicide scenario.
Emergency services responded to the Park and Ride lot, located a quarter mile east of Georgia Avenue, shortly after 4 p.m. following a report of two people shot inside a car. Upon arrival, they confirmed Thomas Willey was dead at the scene. Greg Willey was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. An autopsy for Thomas Willey was scheduled to be performed by the medical examiner in Baltimore to officially confirm the cause and manner of his death.
