In the early morning hours of April 7, 2019, the quiet of a Capitol Heights, Maryland street was broken by the sound of gunfire. When Prince George's County police officers arrived at the 5100 block of Fable Street around 12:15 a.m., they discovered a grim scene. Inside a car, they found 24-year-old Trevor Frazier suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nearby, lying in the roadway, was 26-year-old Raymond Giles, also a victim of the shooting.
Giles was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries a short time later. Both Frazier and Giles were from Frederick, Maryland. The initial investigation left detectives searching for suspects and a motive for the double homicide.
After a three-month investigation, authorities announced an arrest in the case. Homicide detectives took 25-year-old Rendell Markeith Johnson, also of Frederick, into custody. The investigation revealed that the shooting was not a random act of violence; the suspect and the victims were known to each other. Detectives determined that the fatal shooting stemmed from a dispute between Johnson and Trevor Frazier. Johnson was subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, among other related charges. He was apprehended in Washington, D.C., and held without bond while awaiting extradition to Prince George's County to face trial for the deaths of the two men.
